Custom Bike Builds in Sydney
Looking for a custom bike build in Sydney? At Laneway Cyclery, we specialise in bespoke bicycle builds for Sydney riders, built around how and where you ride.
Whether you're chasing a performance road bike, gravel bike, MTB, touring setup, commuter, or cargo bike, every build is designed from the ground up using proven components and real-world experience.
You can bring your own frame and parts, or we can source everything for you.
From fast road riding to Inner West commutes and long-distance bikepacking trips, we build bikes that feel right from day one.
You bring the idea — we’ll build the bike.
We build bikes for the way you actually ride.
From fast road bikes to bikes designed to disappear into the bush for a week, we like builds that have a purpose — even if that purpose is a little hard to explain.
We build:
- Road & endurance — lightweight, fast and built for big days in the saddle.
- Gravel & bikepacking — from weekend adventures to fully loaded trips.
- Touring & long-haul — Rohloff, dynamo, big miles and everything in between.
- Mountain bikes — trail, enduro and bikes built to handle a bit of abuse.
- Commuters & everyday bikes — practical doesn't have to mean boring.
- Cargo & family bikes — built to carry people, stuff and whatever else life throws at you.
- Mini velos & oddballs — if it's got two wheels and a good idea behind it, we're interested.
Got your own parts?
Even better.
Already have a frame sitting in the shed? A box of parts you've collected over the years? Or a slightly questionable combination that you think might actually work?
Bring it in. We're happy to build around customer-supplied frames and components, and we'll let you know where things make sense — and where they probably don't.

The Custom Bike Build Process
1. Talk It Through
First, we figure out what you're trying to build. How you ride, where you're riding, what you want the bike to do and what you want to spend.
Already know exactly what you want? Great. Want some help figuring it out? That's what I'm here for.
2. Choose Your Build Level
$350 — You’ve done the homework
You've already chosen the frame, parts and build spec. Everything is supplied, compatible and ready to go. You bring it all in, and I build it.
$500 — Complete Custom Build
Not sure what parts you need? No problem. This includes the research, component selection, compatibility checks and build specification, as well as putting the whole bike together.
I'll help work out what makes sense for the bike, your riding and your budget before we order anything.
Parts are additional to the build fee.
3. Get the Fit Right
We can work from your existing bike, measurements, a test ride or professional bike-fit data.
The important thing is how you're going to use the bike. A bike for racing, touring, bikepacking or everyday riding shouldn't necessarily be set up the same way.
4. Lock It In
Once you're happy with the build, we take a 50% deposit and get everything underway.
If we're sourcing parts for you, we'll let you know about availability and any potential delays before we commit to the build. Got a hard deadline for a trip or event? Let us know from the start.
5. Build It
Once everything is here, the fun starts.
The frame gets prepared, components are installed and everything is set up properly. The bike gets a full check and test ride before you get your hands on it.
6. Ride It. Tweak It.
You ride it, tell me what feels right and what doesn't, and we make the final adjustments.
Because a custom bike isn't really finished until you've ridden it.
Custom builds from $350. Parts are additional.
New bikes settle in over the first few weeks and your bike may require some refining. We recommend a first service within the first month or two. This is complimentary and ensures everything continues to run smoothly before your next block of riding.

Got an idea for a custom build? Tell us a little about what you're thinking.
You don't need to have everything figured out yet. Let us know what you want to ride, where you want to ride it, your rough budget, and anything you already have frame, parts or otherwise.
What are you thinking?
Tell us about the bike you'd like us to build, how you'll use it, and anything else you think we should know.

Frequently Asked Questions
Bike Builds
It depends on the build and parts availability. Once we've got everything required, I'll get stuck into it. If you're building for a trip, race or specific date, let me know when you enquire.
Absolutely. You can supply as much or as little as you like. Already got a frame and a pile of parts? Bring them in and we'll work out what's usable.
That's probably our favourite kind. If you've got an unusual frame, strange parts combination or an idea that doesn't fit neatly into a category, send it through. We'll see what we can make work.
Yep. Whether it's a brand-new frame, an old favourite or something you've found second-hand, we can work around it. I'll check its condition and compatibility before we start.
The $350 build is for when you've already done the research, chosen the parts and have everything ready to go. I take care of the actual build.
The $500 complete custom build includes the research, component selection, compatibility checks and working out the complete specification, as well as building the bike.
No. The $350 or $500 is the build fee. Parts are additional and are quoted separately.
Most builds take between 1–3 weeks depending on parts availability and build complexity. If you're supplying parts, this can sometimes speed things up.
Yes. For a complete custom build, I'll research and source the parts needed. If you already know exactly what you want, I can also source individual components for you.
